Is your data secure from disaster?

Is Cloud Storage bulletproof?

Cyberattacks and natural disaster is imminent, and they come without sign of warning. Therefore data security infrastructure is essential in today’s data-centric business environment. For example, in early March 2021, the fire in OVHCloud data centre in Strasbourg, France, is an example of shortcomings in enterprise attitudes towards cloud backups and disaster recovery. Nevertheless, cloud storage is an excellent option for cost-saving and functional ones like regular data backups and scale efficiently, including:

  • Eliminate capital expenses by eliminating the needs of the initial investment to purchase equipment and install it in the office.

  • Reduce IT staff’s responsibilities as the cloud storage will be managed by another company.

  • Perform regular data backups that on-premises servers ever could. Such frequency will mitigate the risk of losing critical information.

How about On-Premise Solutions?

Unlike cloud storage, on-premises storage relies on your company’s brick and mortar office infrastructure to manage your data. On-premises storage has benefits including:

  • Operate without internet since on-premises servers provide you with an internal network that is accessible anytime.

  • Provide greater security to handle sensitive data in comparison to cloud storage. On-premises servers are not accessible to those outside the network, as they are not storing the data online.

  • Offer control over server hardware without dependency on a third party. The company could gain greater flexibility by having the ability to perform upgrades and customization in-house.

Cloud-Based or On-Premises?

When comparing your on-premise and cloud storage options, make sure to weigh the pros and cons of each. As you select your provider for the services, ask the right questions to ensure you get the best option for your organization. Is on-premises or cloud better for your business?
